China Sourcing Update: Transportation Cost (Jun 2017)

China Containerized Freight Index rises slightly in June

After falling from 846.27 on 26 May to 840.09 on 2 June, the China Containerized Freight Index (CCFI) rose to a four-month high of 851.60 on 30 June (see exhibit 1).

According to media reports, the market demand for containerized freight services remained strong in the month, except for North American routes where a sluggish demand drove down freight rates in early June.

With the approach of the high season, a lot of carriers raised freight rates in late June and early July amid a rise in the market demand for containerized freight services. Therefore, we expect the China Containerized Freight Index to go up further in the near future.
