MYANMAR: Online Customs Clearance System Begins National Rollout

Just over a year after it first went into use in Yangon, Myanmar’s online customs clearance system is to be extended to Myawaddy, a southwestern town bordering Thailand. The system – the Myanmar Automated Cargo Clearance System (MACCS) – allows importers and exporters to submit customs forms and pay all due taxes online.

The system will go live in Myawaddy following a three-month trial run, which is scheduled to be completed in June 2018. It will then be further extended to two other land crossings in Myanmar – Tachileik, also on the country’s border with Thailand, and Muse, the gateway to China’s Yunnan Province. This additional roll-out is expected to take place during the course of 2019.
