VIETNAM: Certificate of Origin Procedures Amended for Trans-Pacific Partnership Signatories
When exporting to any of the 10 fellow signatories under the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), local businesses will be obliged to follow new procedures in order to secure the required Certificates of Origin (COOs). In line with this, exporters must petition one of the government agencies authorised by the Ministry of Industry and Trade via the specified application form.
This new requirement comes into force as of 8 March and applies to all trade with Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru and Singapore. The practice of self-issuing COOs is not scheduled to be adopted for a further five years.
