13th Five-Year Plan for Development of Semi-conductor Lighting Industry Published

The 13th Five-Year Plan for the Development of the Semi-conductor Lighting Industry has been jointly published by the National Development and Reform Commission and several other government ministries. Overall, the new plan looks to guide the healthy and sustainable development of the sector, while also looking to raise the overall level of technological innovation.

Under the terms of the plan, the overall scale of the industry is to be steadily expanded over the short- to medium-term. To this end, by 2020, it is anticipated that at least one LED lighting company will have sales in excess of RMB10 billion (US$1.4 billion), while the industry will also comprise one or two globally-renowned brands and some 10 high-profile domestic brands. This expansion will be primarily achieved through a series of innovations in the core technologies, an overall improvement in product quality and the further optimisation of the overall product mix.

Priority will also be given to promoting the wider application of organic LED (OLED) lighting products, while also looking to the semi-conductor lighting industry to play a key role in general societal development,
