China Lifts Ban on Certain Beef Imports from Japan

Based on the latest risk assessments, China’s General Administration of Customs and Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs jointly announced on 19 December 2019 the lifting of a long-enforced ban in relation to mad cow disease in Japan (Announcement No. 202 [2019]). Deboned Japanese beef under 30 months old - which was previously banned by the former General Administration of Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine and the former Ministry of Agriculture (Announcement No. 143 [2001]) - can now be imported into China again. The import inspection and quarantine requirements for these products will be formulated separately.
