China Makes CCC Approval Mandatory for Gas Appliances and Household Refrigerators

As of 1 October, this year, electrical and domestic gas appliances, household refrigerators with a capacity of 500 L or more, as well as “explosion-proof” apparatuses, are to fall within the remit of the China Compulsory Certification (CCC) system, with all designated certification agencies having now been briefed to accept and process applications relating to such items. Said agencies now have until 25 September to submit detailed proposals to the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) with regard to the recommended certification procedures.

Accordingly, provincial-level Market Regulation Departments will no longer accept applications for production licences relating to such appliances and will duly terminate the processing of any pending licences.

From 1 October 2020, any such products that have failed to secure CCC certification (or do not display the specified CCC mark) may not exit their original production site, be offered for sale, imported or used in the course of any mainland business activity.

Further details of these requirements can be found in the Announcement on the Implementing Requirements for Replacing the Production Licensing System with the China Compulsory Certification System for Certain Products Including Explosion-proof Electrical Appliances, as recently issued by the SAMR.
