China Restricts Imports of Iron, Steel and Aluminium Waste

Several waste metals have been recategorised as restricted in line with a recent joint directive from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Ministry of Commerce and several other government bodies.

The directive, issued as part of an update to the Catalogue of Imported Waste Management, reassigns eight solid waste varieties – including iron, steel and aluminium – from the Catalogue of Non-Restricted Solid Waste Imports for Use as Raw Materials to the Catalogue of Restricted Solid Waste Imports for Use as Raw Materials.

The change in status takes effect as of 1 July this year.
