Hengqin Launches Support Programme for Young Hong Kong / Macao Entrepreneurs

Zhuhai’s Hengqin New Area has introduced a series of measures designed to help young entrepreneurs and start-up businesses from either Hong Kong or Macao relocate to the region in order to further their careers or fuel their future growth.

The incentive programme will run until 31 December 2022 and is open to individuals / businesses active in a number of sectors, including the innovative application of science / technology, the development of special financial products, medical and health services, cultural opportunities, tourism, conventions and exhibitions, cross-border trade and professional services.

Under the terms of the incentive programme, the eligibility criteria for young entrepreneurs and start-ups are as follows:

  • Young Entrepreneurs
In order to qualify, individuals must be between 18 and 45 years of age and residents of either Hong Kong or Macao.
  • Start-Ups
Qualifying businesses must be registered for tax and business purposes within Hengqin, with a young Hong Kong or Macao entrepreneur holding at least 25% of the shares in the company as originally registered or a minimum of 10% of the total shares after the most recent financing round. All such businesses must also be active in the Hengqin New Area, the Hengqin Bonded Area or the Hongwan Area.

Full details can be found in the Interim Measures for Further Supporting Macao and Hong Kong Youth in Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Hengqin, as recently issued by the General Office of the Hengqin New Area Administrative Committee.
