Technology Ministry Pledges Support for Production Resumption

On 21 March, the Ministry of Science and Technology issued a circular on the issuance of Several Measures for Supporting with Technology and Innovation the Resumption of Work and Production and Economic Stability (Guo Ke Fa Qu No. 67 [2020]). All local departments (commissions and bureaus) of science and technology are urged to give priority to key technological tasks with focus on high-tech zones, technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises, high-tech enterprises, new- and high-tech industries, with a view to helping them resume work and production by means of technology and innovation.

To this end, the ministry put forward 18 important measures, including kicking off special projects of “Technology Boosting Economy 2020” and fast starting a number of technology and innovation projects through key research and development programmes on the principle of “short cycle, quick results and simple and direct procedures”. Support will be given to outstanding technology-based enterprises in overcoming short-term difficulties brought by the epidemic and appropriate preferential treatment will be given to the worst-hit areas. At the same time, the ministry will foster new industries and new business models, vigorously promote research on key technologies, while enhancing supports on technology projects of 5G, artificial intelligence, quantum communication, brain science, industrial internet application, prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, new drugs, high-end medical devices, new energy and new materials.
