Argentina Adopts New Technical Requirements for Plywood
Argentinean authorities are requiring domestically-produced and imported plywood to comply with the quality and safety requirements outlined in Annex I of Resolution 900/2017 in order to be commercialised in Argentina. Subject merchandise must comply with the provisions of standard IRAM 9506 and be marked with the following information: (i) the species (botanical name) of the plywood faces; (ii) the country of origin; and (iii) a safety seal in accordance Resolution 799/1999. It must also undergo certification in accordance with certification System 5, which is based on an evaluation of the manufacturer’s quality management system and the testing of samples taken from the production line.
No later than 27 January, domestic producers and importers of plywood must submit proof to the relevant authorities of the initiation of a certification process prior to the commercialisation or customs clearance of their goods, as applicable. Such proof must identify the product and its technical characteristics, such as the type of plywood, quality grade, resistance class and elasticity module. No later than 25 August, domestic producers and importers will be required to submit a copy of the applicable conformity certificate for their plywood. Compliance with the formaldehyde emission requirement of Point 5.1.3 and Table 1 of IRAM 9506, as well as certain associated marking provisions of that standard, has been postponed until 28 May 2019.
