Brazil Lowers Duties on Additional Products

Brazilian authorities have established tariff-rate quotas on imports of nine additional products to correct a lack of supply in the Brazilian market.

  • Chromium Sulphate. A  maximum of 20,000 tonnes of chromium sulphate classified under NCM 2833.29.60 will continue to benefit from a two percent duty through 30 June 2020. Out-of-quota merchandise will be subject to a regular MFN rate of 10 percent.
  • p-Xilene. A  maximum of 145,000 tonnes of p-Xilene classified under NCM 2902.43.00 will continue to benefit from duty-free treatment through 30 June 2020. Out-of-quota merchandise will be subject to a regular MFN rate of four percent.
  • Rutile Pigments. Up to 50,000 tonnes of certain rutile pigments classified under NCM 3206.11.10 will continue to benefit from a reduced six percent duty through 30 June 2020, with up to 4,836 tonnes of certain types of rutile pigments benefitting from a two percent duty.
  • Polyamide-6. Separate TRQs of 3,600 tonnes and 3,500 tonnes will continue to apply through 30 June 2020 for polyamide 6 meeting certain specifications and classified under NCM 3908.10.24. In-quota imports will benefit from a two percent duty while out-of-quota merchandise will face a regular MFN rate of 14 percent.
  • Certain Paper. Up to 15,993 tonnes of paper for the manufacture of corrugated plasterboard, in rolls, classified under NCM 4805.92.90, will continue to benefit from a reduced two percent duty through 30 June 2020, while out-of-quota merchandise will face an MFN rate of 12 percent.
  • Aluminium. Up to 150,000 tonnes of unalloyed aluminium ingot, sow and t-bars classified under NCM 7601.10.00 will continue to benefit from duty-free treatment through 30 June 2020, with out-of-quota imports facing an MFN rate of six percent.
  • Sardines. A maximum of 55,000 tonnes of frozen sardines classified under NCM 0303.53.00 will benefit from duty-free treatment through 30 June 2020, while another 55,000 tonnes will benefit from such treatment from 1 July through 31 December 2020. Out-of-quota merchandise will face an MFN rate of 10 percent.
  • Sodium Hydroxide. A maximum of 88,000 tonnes of sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) in aqueous solution used exclusively in the production of alumina or aluminium oxide, classified under NCM 2815.12.00, will benefit from a reduced duty of two percent for a period of 12 months from 28 December 2019. Out-of-quota merchandise will be subject to a regular MFN rate of eight percent.
  • Disodium Sulphate. Up to 910,000 tonnes of anhydrous disodium sulphate for the manufacture of powder detergents classified under NCM 2833.11.10 will benefit from a reduced two percent duty for a period of 12 months from 31 January 2020. Out-of-quota merchandise will be subject to a regular MFN rate of 10 percent.
