CPSC Recalls Various Products Made in Hong Kong and Mainland China

The CPSC has announced a recall of the following product made in Hong Kong.

Smoke Alarms. Universal Security Instruments has announced a recall of some 180,000 smoke alarms because they have a misaligned internal switch that causes the alarms to not activate properly. This recall involves battery-operated ionisation smoke and fire alarms with model numbers MI3050S and MI3050SB and date codes between 2015JAN19 and 2016JUL11. The smoke alarms are white in colour and 5.5 inches in diameter. “Universal” and “Smoke & Fire Alarm” are printed on the front cover of the alarm and the label on the back of the alarm lists the model number and date code. These products were sold on-line by specialty wholesalers and others from July 2015 through December 2016.

The CPSC has announced a recall of the following products made in mainland China.

Plush Toys. Disney Merchandise Sourcing & Distribution LLC has issued a recall for about 80,000 plush toys in the United States as well as about 650 plush toys in Canada because the plastic eyes on these toys can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children. This recall involves an 11-inch “Forky” plush toy from Disney Pixar’s Toy Story 4. The toy has poseable arms, a base, rainbow screen art on top of one foot and plastic rolling “googly” eyes. The eyes are comprised of three parts: a white plastic base, a clear plastic dome and a small black plastic disc within the dome that represents the character’s pupil. The tracking code information (FAC-024868-18338, FAC-024868-19032, FAC-024868-19060 or FAC-024868-19091) is included on the sewn in label attached to the base of the toy. These toys were sold at Disney Stores nationwide, Disney Theme Parks, on-line at shopdisney.com and through the Disney store on Amazon Marketplace from April through June 2019.

Children’s Security Blankets. Swaddle Bee LLC has announced a recall of approximately 700 children’s security blankets because the blanket’s snaps can detach, posing a choking hazard. This recall involves Loviebee security blankets for infants, which were sold in blue/grey, blue/white, pink/grey and pink/white colour combinations with optional personalised embroidery. The blankets have a polyester minky fabric on one side and velour on the other side and  measure about 16 inches by 16 inches. They have two straps with a metal snap at the end of each strap and the body of the blanket to attach the blanket to a stroller, crib or car seat or wrist. The Swaddle Bee logo is located on a sewn-on tag attached to the corner of the blanket. These blankets were sold on-line at swaddlebee.com as well as on the Swaddle Bee Instagram account from September 2018 through May 2019.

Valve Caps. Customs Molded Products has announced a recall of approximately 16,000 two-inch diverter valve caps sold with certain Master Spas “Twilight Series,” “H2X Swim Spa” and “MP Signature Deep  Swim Spa” hot tubs/swim spas because the valve cap can become loose, pop off and strike a bystander, posing an impact hazard. The clear valve caps are included as a component part and are located under the diverter handle on the upper deck of the hot tub/spa above the water line. Their model names are printed on the control panel covers. These products were sold by Master Spas hot tub/spa distributors from December 2017 through May 2019.

Door Pulls. The CPSC has recalled about 70,200 door pulls because they can have sharp edges on the back, posing a laceration hazard. This recall includes Everbilt 6.5-inch stainless steel door pulls with model number 14339. The door pulls have a rounded bow shape and are secured by four screws. They were sold at Home Depot stores nationwide and on-line at www.homedepot.com from April 2018 through May 2019.

Loudspeakers. Bose Corporation has issued a recall for approximately 77,500 loudspeakers because their mounting components can break, causing the speakers to dislodge and fall from their installed location and posing an injury hazard. This recall involves FreeSpace DS40F in-ceiling/flush-mount loudspeakers manufactured before 13 August 2018 as well as all FreeSpace and EdgeMax in-ceiling/flush-mount loudspeakers installed in commercial cooking environments. The loudspeakers were sold in black and white colours with “Bose” engraved on the front of them. The model number and date of manufacture can be found on the label on the back of the loudspeaker. These professional loudspeakers were sold by Bose through authorised Bose resellers to commercial purchasers from January 2002 through January 2019.

Fireworks. Winco Fireworks International has issued a recall for about 21,000 fireworks units because when ignited the device can burst and spread sparks and pyrotechnic materials upward and outward instead of on the ground as intended, posing explosion, burn and projectile hazards to bystanders. This recall involves Black Cat branded “Cat Mobile” fireworks with model number BC396. Shaped like a black mobile vehicle with red headlights, the device whistles when lit and shoots sparks while moving on the ground. The Black Cat logo is printed on the outside of the product packaging in the left top corner, “Cat” is printed in white lettering and “Mobile” is printed in yellow lettering on the product’s packaging. These products were sold at Pyro City, Fireworks Supermarket and other Black Cat Fireworks outlets nationwide from April through June 2019.

Wooden Toys. Lidl US Trading LLC has issued a recall for about 300 wooden toys because the toy’s wooden wheels can detach and release small parts, posing a choking hazard to young children. This recall includes the Playtive Junior Wooden Grasping Toy, which is made of wood in the shape of an elephant with four blue wheels on the bottom. The toy has a space in the centre as well as model number HG04414 on its underside. These toys were sold at Lidl stores in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York from March through May 2019.

Mugs. Lifetime Brands Inc. is recalling some 150,000 mugs in the United States and about 3,500 mugs in Canada because they can crack or break when used with or exposed to hot liquids, posing burn and laceration hazards. This recall involves Fitz and Floyd Nevaeh White can mugs and Nevaeh White lattice can mugs in gold. The mugs were sold individually with UPC code 742414338057 or 742414391175 and as part of a four-piece dinnerware set with UPC code 742414375946. The UPC codes are printed on a sticker and placed on the bottom of the individually sold mugs. The mugs can hold 15 ounces, measure about four inches tall and about four inches in diameter. Printed on the bottom of the Fitz and Floyd Nevaeh White can mug is “Nevaeh White by Fitz and Floyd, Fine Bone China, Dishwasher/Microwave/Oven Safe”. Printed on the bottom of the Fitz and Floyd Nevaeh White lattice can mug in gold is “Nevaeh White by Fitz and Floyd, Fine Bone China, Dishwasher Safe”. These mugs were sold at Bed Bath & Beyond stores nationwide and on-line at bedbathandbeyond.com from January 2013 through April 2019.
