Acronym in full: Internet of Things

The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to the smart interconnection of any devices (e.g. RFID, sensors, etc.) via the Internet infrastructure (including the fixed and mobile networks) that goes beyond machine-to-machine communications (M2M). Typically, IoT applications are expected to enable organisations or enterprises to obtain more visibility into the identification, location, and condition of products, assets, transactions, or even people, with the ultimate goals to be able to trace their pedigree and to drive more effective, timely business decisions.
