The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) was adopted by the EU in 2003, which sets collection, recycling and recovery targets for electrical goods. WEEE requires that when electrical and electronic equipment are placed on the market, it is the responsibility of the producer/distributor to make provisions for its collection and recycling.
