8 April 2019
Seminar on ‘New Markets, New Channels: Meeting the Challenge of ASEAN’s Economies’
WHAT: The global economic slowdown and uncertainties arising from the United States-Mainland China trade dispute has inevitably led Hong Kong businesses to identify new markets, as well as embrace the many digital sales channels. One trading bloc that represents a huge and expanding market – as well as one that is increasingly e-commerce-oriented – is the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). This seminar will consider how best to leverage the advantages of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA) and the Hong Kong-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (HAFTA).
WHEN: 11 April 2019 (Thursday), 3:30pm - 5:15pm
In Cantonese. Free admission.
WHO: Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC)
WHY: Attendance is recommended for any business serious about targeting this region and keen to get an understanding of each individual economy’s digital ecosystem. Speakers will include Wing Chu, Business Advisory Manager, Research Department, HKTDC, who will explain how to capitalise on FTA opportunities between ASEAN and mainland/Hong Kong; Victoria Yu, Manager, SME Export Marketing Fund Unit, Trade and Industry Department, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), who will discuss exploring new markets with the help of government funding schemes; Issac Lai, Senior Inspector, Free Trade Agreement Transhipment Facilitation Unit, Ports and Maritime Command, Customs and Excise Department, HKSAR, who will explain the Free Trade Agreement Transhipment Facilitation Scheme; Jacqueline Yuen, Economist, Asian and Emerging Markets Research Team, Research Department, HKTDC, who will discuss cross-border e-commerce opportunities in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia; and Stanley Lee – the founder of the Cross Border E-Commerce Service Group – who will go into strategies for Hong Kong enterprises seeking to tap ASEAN e-commerce opportunities
