CAMBODIA: Streamlined Border Inspection Mooted for Export and Import Goods
Streamlined import and export processing procedures are to be introduced at the country’s border crossings. Among the planned changes is the removal of the requirement for all imports and exports to be subject to a border check by Camcontrol, the Ministry of Commerce’s fraud prevention agency. The existing fee for the scanning of containerised cargo is also to be reduced.
The moves form part of a government bid to boost the country’s competitiveness as a trading and investment destination. This is seen as a particular priority given Cambodian exports to the EU are set to lose their zero-tariff status. An official date for the adoption of these new regulations has yet to be announced.
