INDIA: Automated Customs Clearance Procedures Set to be Adopted

Import customs procedures at ports and air terminals have been further streamlined as the country looks to improve its ranking on the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Index. With the policy billed as Turant – the Hindi word for ‘immediate’ – it is expected that the new arrangements will cut the processing time for imported goods by up to eight hours.

Essentially, the move will see a number of clearance procedures automated, freeing importers from the need to physically present a Bill of Entry to customs officials in order to secure final clearance.
