INDIA: Export Restrictions on Agro Products Abolished in Bid to Expand Trade Portfolio

With the exception of items deemed to be essential for the country’s food security, restrictions on the export of the majority of agricultural products are to be lifted. This will see export duties, export bans and quota restrictions abolished for all such items, including organic and processed agro products as well as high value-added agro-food items.

The move is intended to boost the country’s overall export level of value-added agro products, while also diversifying its overseas trade portfolio. Although formally approved by the country’s cabinet, an official implementation date for the measures is yet to be announced.
