INDIA: Online Platform Set to Slash Certificate of Origin Wait Times

Certificates of Origin (CO) are set to be issued within hours of application once the country’s new export portal goes online. The new service replaces the current practice of certificates being issued by one of 200 different agencies in India, a process than can take several weeks to complete.

The new portal is also intended to house a single database in India of all exports claiming duty benefits, a move expected to make it easier to verify the authenticity of COs and to track consignments. It is believed that this will ultimately facilitate the faster resolution of disputes. An official launch date for the portal has yet to be announced.
