INDIA: Survey Set to Produce Domestic Size Chart for Readymade Garment Industry

In March this year, the government is planning to conduct a nationwide sizing survey with the intention of establishing a standardised size chart for the domestic readymade garment industry. With an anticipated duration of six months, the project will involve the collection of body measurement data from 25,000 people across six geographical regions. This data will then be used to develop an India Size chart for use by both domestic and international clothing manufacturers/retailers.

It is hoped that this standardised size chart will lead to the manufacture of clothing that better fits Indian consumers, in turn reducing the inventory wastage occasioned by the currently high level of returned items.
