INDONESIA: Clarification Issued on Import of Uncertified Toys
The National Standardisation Agency of Indonesia has issued a series of clarifications with regard to the import of overseas-manufactured toys. Firstly, named individuals will be entitled to receive shipments of up to three toys that have not been subject to Indonesian National Standards (Standardisasi Nasional Indonesia – SNI) approval within any 30-day period. Secondly, every arriving airline passenger will be entitled to bring in up to five non SNI-certified toys. In the case of toys restricted to use by those aged 14 or above, no SNI-certification requirement will apply regardless of the number of such items imported.
These amended regulations have been introduced following a highly-publicised dispute that saw Indonesian customs officials ban an arriving airline passenger from taking a non-SNI certified toy into the country.
