INDONESIA: Monthly Minimum Wage Set to Rise by 8.13%

An 8.13% increase in the minimum monthly wage is to be implemented as of 1 January next year. As the minimum wage varies by region across the country, the increase will show a similar variance in real terms.

At present, while workers in Jakarta, the country’s relatively affluent capital, are entitled to a monthly minimum wage of Rupiah 3.65 million (US$243), those in the comparatively undeveloped East Nusa Tenggara region receive only Rupiah 1.66 million (US$111). The governors of individual provinces have until 1 November 2018 to officially adopt the proposed increase or to announce any local variance.
