INDONESIA: Port Arrest Underlines Government’s Commitment to Eradicating Bribery

A port official in Central Java is the first to be arrested under the country’s new anti-bribery legislation. The official was apprehended by the Anti-illegal Levy Task Force, a body established in Indonesia specifically to enforce the Illegal Levies Eradication, which was formally adopted on 21 October.

The arrest is seen as underlining the government’s commitment to stamping out the common practice of officials soliciting illicit payments to secure the issuance of various permits and licences.
