INDONESIA: Tax Dodgers Face Ban on Overseas Travel

Tax evaders face being banned from leaving the country as the government continues its crackdown on individuals and businesses who fail to remit the statutory proportion of their earnings to the exchequer. In order to facilitate this, the country’s tax and immigration authorities will be pooling their data and cross-matching would-be travellers with known tax miscreants. Whether on account of having their passports seized or through being physically apprehended at departure points, such individuals will be restricted to staying within the country’s boundaries until they make good on their tax deficit.
