LAOS: Environmental Concerns Lead to Likely Ban on Import of Pre-owned Electronic Items

A ban on the import of discarded electronic products and sub-standard ICT equipment is expected to become part of the country’s forthcoming Information and Communication Technology Law. The move is in response to growing concern over the potential environmental damage caused by the electronics recycling sector in Laos.

The new legislation is also likely to specify measures related to the monitoring and regulation of telecom service fees and product standards. No date for the enactment of the new bill has been announced.
