LAOS: Legal Framework for Future Anti-Dumping Measures Officially Adopted

A legal framework has been adopted, which, for the first time, will facilitate any future imposition of anti-dumping/countervailing measures on imported products. According to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MOIC), up until now, any such punitive recourse against goods imported to the country for sale at a price below that of their original manufacturing costs has not been legally deliverable. The new legislation is also said to ensure compliance with the country’s World Trade Organisation (WTO) obligations.

To date, there has been no official word as to which products, businesses or countries may be initially subject to such measures, with the government emphasising that no action will be taken until any relevant allegation has been thoroughly investigated.
