LAOS: Online Trading Platform Looks to Boost SMEs and Drive Investment

In a bid to promote e-commerce in the country, the Laos government has launched an online trading portal dedicated to meeting the needs of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The portal, www.plaosme.com, will focus on showcasing goods produced in Laos, allowing entrepreneurs and SMEs to buy and sell online. Available in both English and Lao, the portal also provides information on Laos’ trade and investment environment, as well as the free trade agreements that the country is party to.

Backed by US$562,000 of funding from the Asian Development Bank, the portal forms part of a government initiative aimed at both boosting the access of local SMEs to the overseas markets as well as driving overall investment levels. The portal also offers a business matching facility.
