MALAYSIA: New National Minimum Wage Set for January 2019 Introduction

The current regional minimum wage variations are to be superseded by a uniform national rate as of 1 January 2019. This will see the statutory monthly minimum wage increase to RM1,050 (US$253), while the minimum hourly rate will be raised to RM5.05.

At present, the minimum wage is RM1,000 (US$241) per month (RM4.81 per hour) in Peninsular Malaysia and RM920 (US$222) per month (RM4.42 per hour) in the states of Sabah and Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan.
