MALAYSIA: Online Retailers Given 30 Days to Register Trading Status
Businesses that trade online are now obliged to register with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM), the country’s corporate regulator. The operators of any business that fails to register within 30 days of an online sale may face a two-year prison sentence, a fine of RM50,000 (US$11,672) or both.
The measure, announced on 27 May, initially applies solely to online traders using the Lazada e-commerce platform, though it will be gradually extended to include all other digital commerce sites.
