MYANMAR: FDI in Proscribed Business Sectors Must Be Registered by March 2019

Foreign investors with an existing interest in any of the recently-proscribed FDI sectors have until 29 March 2019 to notify the Myanmar Investment Commission (or any other relevant state or regional authority) of their involvement. This requirement also applies in cases where an existing permit has been issued by the Commission.

The deadline was announced following the earlier publication of a list of business sectors where foreign investment is to be proscribed. Among the sectors ruled off-limits are publishing in Burmese or any other indigenous language, fresh water fishing, and prospecting for and processing of precious stones.

For further details, see MYANMAR: Government Issues List of Approved and Proscribed FDI Sectors. A full list of the approved and restricted sectors can also be accessed here.
