MYANMAR: Online Customs Clearance System Piloted in Yangon through October Prior to National Roll-out

The country’s first online customs clearance system is currently being piloted in Yangon, Myanmar’s largest city and most important commercial centre. Billed as the Myanmar Automated Cargo Clearance System (MACCS), the programme will allow importers and exporters to digitally submit customs forms, as well as providing an online platform for the payment of any due taxes and other associated fees.

With the trial period scheduled to be completed by the end of October, the MACCS is then expected to be formally implemented at Yangon International Airport and the Thilawa port and Special Economic Zone. The system will then be extended to Myanmar’s land crossings, including Myawaddy and Tachileik on the country’s border with Thailand, and Muse on its border with China (near Ruili of Yunnan Province).
