MYANMAR: Private Education Sector Opened Up to 100% Overseas Ownership

For the first time, overseas-based companies and individuals are to be allowed to wholly-own and operate private schools in the country. More specifically, 100% FDI is to be permitted with regard to private basic education schools; private technical, vocational and training schools; private higher education schools; private subject-based schools; and any other private school approved by Myanmar’s Ministry of Education.

The curriculum of all such educational institutions, however, must be in line with that specified by the MOE, another relevant ministry or form part of an established, internationally-recognised syllabus.
