MYANMAR: Work on Yangon’s Second Special Economic Zone to Commence in 2018
The authorities are planning to build a new Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on the outskirts of the city of Yangon, the country’s commercial capital. The planned SEZ, which has received approval from the union government, will straddle three townships located south of the city centre - Kungyangon, Dala and Kawhmu.
Plans are also afoot to build a new international airport to serve the new SEZ as well as a deep-sea port at Kungyangon. The latter will be connected to Dala by a six-lane highway. No date has been announced for the completion of the new project, which will be Yangon’s second SEZ after the Thilawa SEZ, which has attracted investments of more than US$900 million.
