PHILIPPINES: 300 New SEZs Promised for 2018 Amid Concerns Over Official Delays

Some 300 new Special Economic Zones (SEZs) are to be established during the course of 2018, according to the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), including two large SEZs in the two provinces of Bulacan and Pangasinan on the Luzon island.

The announcement comes amid concerns that more than 50 current SEZ applications are still awaiting formal government approval. Under the terms of the Philippines’ Special Economic Zone Act (1995), presidential approval must be secured before development work can commence on any SEZ site.
