PHILIPPINES: New Moves Made to Streamline Business Establishment Procedures
Commercial entities located in Central Business Districts (CBDs) or city shopping malls will no longer be required to secure locational clearance prior to registering for a licence or renewing one. Instead, they will only be subject to a geographical audit once such a licence has been issued or renewed. The change is to take immediate effect, with all the country’s Local Government Units (LGUs) having already been briefed on its implementation.
The move, championed by the country’s Anti-Red Tape Authority in line with its recently-issued Memorandum Circular 2020-01, is intended to further streamline business establishment procedures and improve the ease of doing business in the country. In a related move, the government earlier announced plans for a National Business One-Stop Shop (NBOSS), a one-stop facility for the registration of new businesses.
