PHILIPPINES: One-Stop Five-Day Processing Introduced for Construction Permits

Local government bodies across the country are now obliged to process construction permit applications relating to specified project types within five working days. Among the qualifying projects, as specified by the Department of Trade and Industry, are two-storey commercial premises, three-storey residential buildings, warehousing for non-hazardous materials and renovation work on existing retail malls.

In an additional move, all such local government bodies are now required to establish one-stop service centres providing a single window facility for the one-time submission of all of the required documents and fees relating to construction permit applications. The latest changes are in line with a wider government bid to create a National Policy on the Ease of Doing Business.
