THAILAND: EEC Eligibility Criteria Announced for Overseas Educational Institutes

Overseas educational institutions looking to operate in Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) must be ranked among the top 100 of all such organisations as evaluated by Quacquarelli Symonds, Times Higher Education or any other reputable educational monitoring body approved by the Thai Education Ministry. They must also score more highly than equivalent domestic businesses in certain designated categories. In addition, only educational institutes that offer courses in line with the EEC’s 10 priority high-tech industry sectors will be considered.

Once approved, educational service providers will be eligible for the full range of incentives on offer to EEC investors, including a 50% reduction in corporate income tax over a five-year period and a 17% personal income tax rate for all senior executives and experts working on EEC-related projects.

The 10 priority sectors in question are smart electronics; next-generation cars; digital services; high-end medical and wellness tourism; agriculture and biotechnology; food; industrial robotics; logistics and aviation; biofuels / biochemicals; and the provision of medical services.
