THAILAND: End of Year Purchases Qualify for Income Tax Deductions in Bid to Boost Consumer Spending

A maximum income tax deduction of Thai Baht 15,000 (US$420) is now available on the purchase of all goods and services up until 31 December 2016. Introduced in a bid to boost consumer spending over the holiday period, consumers can claim the deduction on the production of receipts for items purchased during the specified period.

A number of items, however, are exempt from the scheme, including any spending on fuel, cars, motorcycles, boats, cigarettes, alcoholic beverages and hotel accommodation.
