THAILAND: Import Tariff Cuts Mooted for 51 Categories of Robotic Components

Tariff cuts have been mooted for 51 import categories related to robotic components. The proposal, which is now subject to Cabinet approval, is intended to boost the development of the country’s domestic robotics industry, one of a number of sectors singled out for priority treatment under the country’s Thailand 4.0 initiative.

The cuts are seen as a means of compensating for the lack of domestic production capacity in certain related sectors, as well as the current high import costs of key robotic components.[1] The government’s ultimate aim is believed to be to establish Thailand as the robotics hub for the ASEAN bloc.
