THAILAND: Infrastructure-Proximate Land and Property Owners Face Windfall Tax

Landowners – whether individual or corporate –  are to be taxed on the rise in the value of any of their properties occasioned by being 5km or less from a major transport infrastructure project. This new Land Windfall Tax is to be capped at 5% of the increased value and will become due whenever any such property or residential development thereon (valued at US$1.5 million or more) changes hands.
