VIETNAM: Adoption of IEC Lithium Battery Standard Marks End of Non-Tariff Export Barrier
The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standard for lithium batteries is to be adopted in Vietnam as of 1 October, applying to both imports and locally-produced items.
The IEC standards, jointly agreed with the International Standards Organisation (ISO), specify production and assembly procedures, as well as governing electrical makeup, safety specifications, physical appearance and labeling requirements. The IEC standards have already been implemented across 80 other countries, with the adoption by Vietnam intended to remove a significant non-tariff barrier for exporters and investors.
