VIETNAM: Controversial Cybersecurity Law Set to Make All User Data Government-Accessible

As well as banning the use of the internet for “anti-state” purposes, the country’s controversial new Law on Cybersecurity will oblige all overseas service providers – including the likes of Google and Facebook – to store all data on local users on Vietnam-based servers, which will then be accessible by government bodies.

Despite widespread international condemnation and a number of local protests, the law is set to come into force as of 1 January 2019.
