CFDA Halts Use of Cordyceps in Health Food Pilots

The following is the text of the circular:

Circular of the CFDA on Halting the Use of Cordyceps in Health Food Pilots (CFDA Shi Jian San No. 21 [2016])

To Food and Drug Administrations of Beijing, Jiangxi, Hubei, Guangxi and Qinghai and the Centre for Health Food Evaluation of CFDA:

The former State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) issued the Pilot Programme on Using Cordyceps in Health Foods (SFDA Bao Hua No. 225 [2012]) in August 2012, urging pilot enterprises to organise relevant pilots in accordance with requirements. CFDA has drawn up and promulgated the Administrative Measures for Health Food Registration and Filing (CFDA Order No. 22) according to the relevant regulations of the revised Food Safety Law, stating that the filing of applications for the examination of cordyceps health foods must be done in accordance with the relevant regulations of the Administrative Measures for Health Food Registration and Filing and may not be produced or sold without approval.

SFDA Bao Hua No. 225 [2012] will cease to be in force from the day of promulgation of this Circular.
