CFDA Issues Guidelines on Food Safety Traceability

The China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) recently issued Several Provisions on the Establishment of Food Safety Traceability System for Food Production and Operation Enterprises to efficiently document and archive food quality and safety information and implement the system of responsibility for quality and safety.

The food production and operation enterprises covered by the Provisions include food production enterprises, enterprises selling food and edible agricultural products, food catering enterprises, and enterprises for the transport and storage of food and edible agricultural products. The Provisions also clearly state that primary responsibility for establishing the food safety traceability system in accordance with the relevant laws, regulations and standards rests with food production and operation enterprises, which shall document and archive information on the quality and safety of products in every step, including production, sale, transportation, storage and handling.

See CFDA website for details of the Provisions in Chinese.
