The governments of Slovakia, Hungary, Germany and Ukraine have recently reported an outbreak of the highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N8 subtype to the World Organisation for Animal Health. In order to protect China’s livestock and prevent human infection, the General Administration of Customs and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs have announced (Announcement No. 31 [2020]) the following measures with immediate effect:

  • Banning the direct or indirect import of poultry and poultry products from Slovakia, Hungary, Germany and Ukraine.
  • Banning the entry of poultry and poultry products from Slovakia, Hungary, Germany and Ukraine by postal delivery or as carry-on items. The items will be returned or destroyed once discovered.
