China Introduces Stimulus Package to Drive Domestic Tourism

As part of moves designed to boost tourism across the mainland, local authorities have been given the go-ahead to levy concessionary entrance fees at areas of natural beauty, offer ad hoc visitor incentives in line with changing trading conditions and waive admission fees altogether outside of peak visitor times.

In addition, prime tourism destinations are to be encouraged to implement bankcard and digital payment processing facilities by 2022. It is also anticipated that, within a three-year period, online ticketing facilities and 4G / 5G Wi-Fi connectivity will be in place in at least 90% of all tourism / cultural venues.

Full details of the measures can be found in the Opinions on Further Stimulating the Potential of Cultural and Tourism Consumption (Guo Ban Fa No. 41 [2019]), as issued by the General Office of the State Council.
