China Outlines Three-Year Anti-Pollution Action Plan

In line with its commitment to environmentally-responsible industrial transformation, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has outlined a three-year action plan for preventing and managing pollution within the communications and other industry sectors.

Ultimately, the plan is intended to deliver an 18% drop in energy consumption per unit of industrial added-value by 2020 compared to the levels recorded for 2015, with a concurrent per unit reduction in water usage of 23%. This will coincide with an overall rise in the ratio of green manufacturing/new and high-tech industries, and a substantial drop in the ratio of heavy/chemical energy industries in certain designated regionsand the immediate environs of several at-risk river basins.

Overall, the action plan focuses on adjusting/optimising various existing industrial arrangements, accelerating the process of green/smart transformation and nurturing the country’s environmentally-friendly industrial base.
