China Prioritises Freight Industry Upgrade

The General Office of the State Council has recently issued a directive prioritising the building of a safe, stable, economic and efficient road freight service system. The aim is to promote the development of the road freight industry. The directive’s goals include:

  • Processing annual examinations and check-ups of freight vehicles online in 2019
  • Promoting autotoll payment by encouraging the integration of the electronic road transport licence and the ETC (Electronic Toll Collection) card
  • Accelerating the adoption of leading key business models by road freight enterprises and encouraging small and low-profit freight companies to form co-operative alliances with an emphasis on cold-chain logistics, less-than-carload freight business and freight brokerage
  • Encouraging local governments to formulate targets and implementation plans for the early elimination and renewal of diesel- and gas-powered vehicles
