China Spells Out 2019 Healthcare Reform Programme

The General Office of the State Council recently published the Key Tasks for Deepening the Healthcare System Reform in 2019, which outlines its plans to strengthen its disease prevention measures, promote health and implement healthcare reform.

Among its designated priorities are the following:

  • Finalising the 15 strategy documents that will outline the Healthy China strategy, the well-regulated development of public health services, the compilation of the catalogues detailing approved generic drugs, the regulation of the use of medical consumables, the management of drugs in medical institutions, internet-based medical consultation charges and the payment of medical insurance premiums.
  • Implementing 21 key initiatives, including the establishment of national and regional medical centres, the orderly development of medical consortiums to promote the hierarchical medical system, the deepening of healthcare reform with regard to public medical services, the promotion of Internet Plus Healthcare, and the overall planning and promotion of comprehensive county healthcare reforms.
