China Streamlines- Application Process for Extension of Approval for Special-Use Cosmetics

New measures intended to streamline the application process for extension of special-use cosmetics administrative approval process, as promulgated by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), will come into effect on 30 June.

Among the key points of the directive – Matters Concerning the Implementation of the Commitment-based Examination and Approval System for Extension of Administrative Approval for Special-Use Cosmetics – are the following:

  • When applying for extension of approval, manufacturers / distributors of special-use cosmetics can now conduct the prescribed tests on their own behalf six months prior to the expiry date of the original approval period
  • All such applicants must then submit the results of the specified tests, as well as their official application for extension, 30 working days prior to the expiry of the original approval period
  • Any cosmetic product deemed unsuitable for extension of approval may not be produced or imported once its original approval period has expired
